Hello!

My name is Asherah Weiss.  (Pronounced uh-SHARE-uh.)

I offer myself as a community artist, a facilitator of creativity, and a mentor.

My goal is to be in service to what creativity can free us from-- our own mental limitations, our isolation, and all internalized oppressions.  I hope to do this through any means necessary-- collaborating with like- and unlike-minded people, bringing creativity out into the public sphere, and trying unconventional approaches to the generosity of the creative spirit.

In my approach, I am focused on social-emotional wellness, and consider myself a mentor first and foremost.  With my particular focus on the arts, I believe that people of all ages and backgrounds can benefit from creativity.  Through the arts, people find a sense of meaning in their lives, build confidence, and witness how open-mindedness united with courageous action can bring about personal and collective change.  I have been told I create an inclusive space where many approaches and voices find their way.  If one doesn’t already consider themselves an “Artist,” creativity can be very scary.  I strive to give everyone a chance to dive in and explore, focusing on process over product.

I have a diverse background in the arts, and have never stopped seeking new ways to express myself, whether through improvisational movement, theater, or countless visual arts approaches.  My way is to learn and share with others.  I prefer to create the space for people to explore their own impulses, and bring a permissive quality to my leadership via modeling expressive behavior.

In 2019 I earned my teaching credential in visual art in California, and have since taught 3rd grade through 12th grade in and out of the classroom.  I have also led intergenerational groups and adults, including elders with dementia.

Please look at my CV for particulars.

Thank you for exploring!
