Los Nopales

During my time as the director at Artstart, I lead this project during the summer program alongside Elena Malpica-Vargas.  We mentored about five high school artists who helped us once we had completed the cactus design for our client, Mario Uribe outside his cafe, Cafe Frida Gallery.  We cut out the designs, sanded and primed them, and then painted the nopales with vibrant rainbow edges.  Our team also created some monarch butterflies to adhere to the walls, and then Mario added the acrylic pieces with the names of businesses occupying the building.  I think this is the most creative way-finding signage I've come across!

The project was funded through the City of Santa Rosa's facade upgrade and placemaking grant.
